The New Esplanade des Pêcheurs of Monaco

31 January 2023

It is a major project, the new Esplanade des Pêcheurs of Monaco has evolved since 2015, date of its announcement. It will finally be smaller for a surface of 5.800 m².

The Monegasque Government has thus validated the implementation of the project by the Caroli Group, however several elements have been negotiated to preserve the interests of the Principality of Monaco, allow the organization of the Grand Prix and guarantee access for emergency services.

THE BUILDING OF THE ESPLANADE DES PÊCHEURS

At the site of the former Monaco Yacht Club it will be a building with an area of approximately 18.000 m² which will include 23 public housing units as well as private housing. In addition the building will also include offices and businesses.

ESPLANADE DES PÊCHEURS – REAL ESTATE COMPLEX

The property will have a parking space of 182 places, about 2.000 m² of public gardens, and a new direct pedestrian access that will connect the property to the Rock or “Monaco-ville”. 1.870 m² will be reserved for the premises of the Monegasque State as well as the service of the Maritime Police.

MUSEUM “CENTRE OF MAN AND THE SEA”

The new museum of underwater archaeology will be called “Center of Man and the Sea” it will be composed of the collections of Franck Goddio, a scientific research unit and various centers of educational activities. An incredible cultural exhibition exposed on about 5.400 m².

5.800 M² OF MODULAR SPACES

An area of 5.800 m² will be composed of modular spaces that will ensure the sustainability of the Monaco Grand Prix but also to be able to organize events throughout the year.

THE ARCHITECT RUDY RICCIOTTI

The Esplanade des Pêcheurs estate is designed by the renowned architect Rudy Ricciotti, who notably created the International Centre for Art and Culture in Liège, the Nantes railway station, the Gstaad Philharmonie in Switzerland, the Bridge of Peace in Seoul or the “19M” Chanel Fashion Manufacture in Paris.

To summarize it is a new real estate and cultural complex that will be realized in respect of the protection of the environment and the underwater life. It is also a big step in redefining the landscape of Port Hercules. The fishermen’s esplanade is a particularly well-exposed location. It is an integral part of the identity of Monaco, which is, it is recalled, the international capital of yachting.
